This session will explore what plan administrators can do beyond plan design incentives to identify at-risk participants, educate and encourage them to seek necessary and appropriate care, and measure the impact of their engagement efforts. This session will explore how Artificial Intelligence can help identify risks and measure improvements in health outcomes. The panel will also discuss the importance of member outreach and education.

Dr. Christopher Balaban is a practicing dentist in Boston, MA and serves as vice president of clinical affairs for Overjet - the industry leader in dental artificial intelligence. Dr. Balaban holds a master’s degree in Biomedical Science and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine, where he was also a clinical instructor in the department of general dentistry. He is a member of the national dental honors society, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and was recently appointed to fellowship by the American College of Dentists. His passion for both dentistry and technology came together when he joined a group of scientists from MIT three years ago to help grow Overjet into a company that is helping to shape the future of dentistry through artificial intelligence for the next generation of dentists. Overjet has received Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its Dental Assist AI product and was named one of the top 100 AI startup companies worldwide in 2021. Dr. Balaban has written numerous articles on artificial intelligence and its application to dentistry which have been published in Compendium, IDH, IDT, and JADA. He is a leading contributor to the ADA’s seminal white paper on Augmented Intelligence, where he leads the authorship of the ‘Clinical Use of Dental AI’ section. Dr. Balaban and his clinical team are working with some of the largest DSOs and payers to adopt dental AI into their operations and document its benefits.

Carl began his career in 1992 with MetLife’s group sales division. He was promoted to manager of group sales training in 1995 and was soon asked to join MetLife Dental to lead sales force education and empowerment. Over the next 22 years, Carl held various roles at MetLife. He directed dental product development, institutional sales training and national accounts cross-product strategy. Carl made his most significant impact as MetLife’s Dental and Vision national sales director for over 15 years. In 2019, Carl joined Dentistat and go2dental as strategy and client engagement vice president. Carl collaborates with clients in this role to evolve digital platforms to deliver marketplace differentiation and an optimal member experience.

Derek joined USI Insurance Services in 2011 as a national resource in Boston, MA.  In his current position at the USI office in St. Louis, MO, he is responsible for developing employee benefits packages for mid to large employer groups.  Derek has experience managing employee benefits for employer groups in the education sector with a specialized focus on higher education practice.  He has worked with multiple higher education clients in Missouri, Illinois, and Iowa.  Derek is part of a Midwest team that services over thirty higher education institutions and over one hundred school districts. Derek is a native of Missouri and is an active sponsor in Missouri’s College and University Professional Association (CUPA), Missouri Community College Association, Illinois CUPA, and Iowa Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

Sara joined Clarity in 2021 with over 12 years of experience in digital health technology and health benefit communications. Before Clarity, Sara worked for a mobile health startup as director of growth & strategy to help improve automated communication for driving better case coordination and outcomes in the operating room. Before this, she built a customer success team at Orderly Health, where she worked directly with health plans to utilize AI & machine learning services to improve provider directories. Sara started her career (& passion) for member engagement at RedBrick Health. She held account management and business development roles working with employers and health plans to promote Digital Health & Wellness Programs.  As the director of account management at Clarity, Sara manages the team of account executives and account managers who lead strategic initiatives with health plans nationwide to help increase member engagement using Clarity’s products & the Accelerate Member Engagement (AME) Platform.   Sara is from Minneapolis, MN and now lives in Denver, CO, where she is usually hiking, biking and skiing in the mountains with her husband, Justin, and Husky, Ruger.

Dr. Ali Sadat is the founder and chief executive officer of Retrace. Before founding Retrace, Dr. Sadat maintained clinical and research appointments at the University of California San Francisco and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, developing novel translational technologies that promote musculoskeletal regeneration by recapitulating development and repair. Using multipotent progenitor cells, biologically modified synthetic scaffolds, and the development of quantitative models, his work aimed to translate these fundamental understandings into clinical application in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with an emphasis on the craniofacial area. Dr. Sadat believes an interdisciplinary, evidence-based approach is critical for solving our most significant health challenges.
